How To Make An Iron Man Costume
Costume shops and costume rental places will have plenty in stock (although they are sure to sell out quickly), but how about making your own?
First, let’s get the suit out of the way, because it’s the easiest part. The “real” Iron Man wears a one piece suit that’s made out of iron. The costumed Iron Man can wear a pair of iron-colored sweatpants and a sweatshirt, or you can paint pants and a shirt in a metallic, iron color.
Use a piece of felt to cut out the Iron Man logo and attach it to the front of the shirt.
Add red bike shorts or boxer shorts that you cut off to look like men’s briefs, and wear those over the sweatpants. The “armor” can be red or gold hockey shoulder pads that are worn over the shirt.
If you have a fake “muscleman” chest, wear that under the sweatshirt to give the impression of bulk that Iron Man is known for. If you don?t have the fake muscles, just use another form of padding, like crumpled newspapers or rolled t-shirts.
How To Make An Iron Man Mask
For a toddler or small child, the mask can be as simple as a ski mask or anything similar that covers the face (with holes for eyes, nose, and mouth, of course).
For an older child, you can either buy an actual Iron man mask or make a more realistic mask by starting with a hockey mask that you paint gold or yellow. First, put on a red ski mask. Then put the painted hockey mask on over that to get the proper effect.
Keep in mind that Iron Man is mainly about the mask. If people can tell it’s Iron Man from the mask, the rest of the costume isn’t as important. So put the bulk of your effort into either buying or making a credible Iron man mask, and you can improvise the rest of it.
Keep in mind there are some decent Iron Man mask tutorials out there to take a look at online to get some more ideas for creating your Iron man costume mask.
Also keep in mind that if you are short on time there are plenty of Iron man masks on the market to choose from to complete your armored avenger costume.
